CoolIT Domino ALC Review
Installation (Continued)
Removing the Chassis Fan
Since the Domino Radiator Module replaces a rear chassis fan it must be removed as shown below. If your case has more than one rear chassis fan choose the one that provides the best location for the Radiator Module. Also check to make sure that this location is in close proximity to the CPU socket as we don’t want unnecessary over flexing of the hoses between the Radiator Module and the FHE.
Attaching the FHE
Since the Domino is a sealed system the Radiator Module and FHE cannot be separated during installation. This part of this installation is a bit tricky and we advise caution here as we wish to see no damage to the Domino, motherboard or CPU.
Carefully position the Radiator Module near the location it will be mounted on the rear chassis. Remove the plastic cover from the FHE and position it over the CPU. Since CoolIT has pre-applied Pro ATC compound there is no need to apply a thermal compound before installation. Fasten the FHE to the threaded bushings provided from the backplate using the pin/spring fasteners but be careful not to over tighten them. The springs will provide the necessary pressure between the FHE and CPU to provide good thermal contact.
Hooking Up the Power
The Domino simply uses a 3 or 4 pin fan connection for all power so we are spending little time on this as expected!
Mounting the Radiator Module
This is quite simple and you have two options available. The first is what CoolIT set this up for and involves using rubber mounting boots which will dampen noise and decrease vibration. The second option is to remove these boots and use machine screws to fasten the Radiator Module much like you would the original chassis fan. We chose the first option and now onto the testing!
